Spring time means many things to many different people, but in this household it means one thing… Vantage!
We kicked off the climbing season with our first trip to Vantage last week. One of the extra side perks about being involved with the Mountaineers is the opportunity to teach. This weekend we decided to invite a couple students to come over with us for some climbing. Neither of them had been to Vantage before so it was a big eye opener for them upon arrival.
This trip was pretty casual as the weather wasn’t quite in the “perfect climbing” range. We hit up Sunshine wall, and I threw up some top ropes on the more classic routes. Once the crowds started rolling in we made a break for Riverview Park for some shorter, but more dynamic routes. Auden was really excited to go to Vantage, as he’s had stellar luck there climbing. Unfortunately, this was just not his weekend. He got spanked right off the bat on a route he’s done before and never really mentally recovered. Everyone else did great! Kim got up the chimney this time which gave her fits last time. Nice work!
It was really fun giving new people the full Vantage tour experience including down at the gorge, campfire via drift wood, the less than ideal outhouses, and of course the climbing. I can see another trip in our very near future!
